I’ve recently been told and not only from one person that it’s quite a lot that I not update my webpage and looking at the last chronicle, it’s more than 1 week, or better almost 10 days that I don’t write anything. Why? Well, I’m working pretty hard, as you know I’m busy 5 days a week at work so I haven’t so much free time. I actually don’t remember what I did the last free day, oh yea...it was last Sunday, was just a relaxing day without nothing special done. Instead today, after a visit to my faithful “No Frills” to get some grocery (my fridge was completely empty) I spent the afternoon around English Bay but around the part that I didn’t see before with Graham. Today was the time to stroll around the Inukshuk. You are probably wondering and asking what the hell is an Inukshuk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inukshuk) ? Well it’s a stone landmark used by the First Nations population. I’m right now quite familiar with this symbol because of my work; in fact we sell some handmade souvenir with this shape and often we have to explain what this symbol exactly means: beside the use like landmark it means friendship and guidance; they are ubiquitous in the cold territories of Northern Canada (an Inukshuk it’s used in the Nunavut flag, the biggest and less inhabited territory in Canada, bigger than entire Europe and with only 30,000 inhabitants). Before coming here in Canada I just knew that has been chosen like symbol for the next Winter Olympics Game that they’ll be hold here in Vancouver next year in February.
So, there is one just here in Vancouver at English Bay. Walking along the beach I even assisted to a live arrest performed by the Vancouver Police.. cool!! A couple of cops in plain clothes busted a black guy and a girl, I didn’t understand the dynamic of the situation and it’s not the first time I see a live arrest (in Barcelona the same, plain clothes Mossos d'Esquadra, the Catalunya police) but it’s cool see these normal guys with t-shirts and shorts along with a badge and an handgun (a Sig Sauer I think ;).
The beach was crowded like pretty much every day lately but the place it’s really cool, I think that’s the best spot here in Vancouver to lay down and get tanned. The Inukshuk it’s cool, was the first time for me with one so big, used just to the souvenirs!!
There’s nothing much to tell about these last days, beside the fact that I was at home alone for a couple of days since Adam is in Ontario, Toronto precisely for a business trip and he’ll be back tomorrow. It didn’t make a big difference as a matter of fact since I spent all my week at work. It’s becoming pretty busy right now, the high season is coming and a lot of cruise ships on the Alaska Route stop by at the port with a lot of American, English and German tourists. No Italians at all. I really can count on one hand all the time that I spoke Italian over here, not more than four if I recall correctly. This is really an advantage for my English, I feel that it’s improving and have to, considering my future work projects!!
Before my trip to the Inukshuk I saw a bizarre event from my window. A group of cyclists wandering around the streets, completely naked!! Damn crazy Canadians! What the hell? I don’t know why they were going around in that way..probably for some reason! They were escorted by a couple of cops too!! It wasn't so cool see these old men (mostly there were men..and old) just go around naked with..u know.. was like in Maspalomas..see the nudist beaches..with some men in his 70s, do u remember that Luighi??!!!
Tomorrow I’ll go back to work before another free day on Monday. My projects for the future are becoming clearer and my choice is pretty much completed. The States will wait me! It’s time to become to save some money stopping my addiction to the Slurpee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slurpee) and to the McFlurry... it’s not so convenient have a McDonald and a 7th Eleven just down here sometimes!!
Besides, it’s 2 months that I’m here, that’s crazy... and that’s crazy when I think about something happened and it’s already more than 1 month ago.. the time goes fast..and if maybe at the beginning 6 months were just a lot... now..they seem so short!

Mi è stato detto da più persone che è da un po’ che non aggiorno il blog ed effettivamente l’ultimo update risale ormai a quasi 10 giorni fa. Perché? Well, lavorando 5 giorni a settimana come già sapete non ho molto tempo libero. Actually, non mi ricordo cosa ha fatto l’ultimo giorno libero, settimana scorsa, ah già.. niente di speciale :-D Invece oggi, dopo una visitina al mio caro e fedele discount No Frills per comprare qualcosa da mangiare visto che il mio frigorifero era ormai desolatamente vuoto da martedì, me ne sono andato ancora una volta ad English Bay ma questa volta verso la parte che con Graham non avevo visto. Oggi era la volta di gironzolare attorno all’Inukshuk. Ora probabilmente vi starete chiedendo che cavolo è un Inukshuk,una cosa con un nome così impronunciabile (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inukshuk). Ecco, allora questi cosi sono dei punti di riferimento in pietra costruiti dalle popolazioni Inuit. Sono abbastanza informato su di essi anche a causa del fatto che nel negozio dove lavoro vendiamo diversi souvenir con questa forma e spesso va spiegato che cosa rappresentano agli ignari turisti provenienti da altre nazioni: oltre all’essere utilizzati appunto come punti di riferimento, significano amicizia e guida; sono dappertutto su nei Territori polari del Canada del Nord (uno di essi è utilizzato all’interno della bandiera del territorio del Nunavut, la più grande entità territoriale dell’intero Canada che da sola è più grande dell’intera Unione Europea ed ha solo 30000 abitanti!!). Prima di venire qui a Vancouver sapevo solamente che un Inukshuk era stato scelto come simbolo dei Giochi Olimpici invernali che si terranno proprio qui a febbraio 2010.
C’è n’è proprio uno qui ad English Bay. Camminando lungo la spiaggia ho perfino assistito ad un arresto in diretta portato a termine dalla Polizia di Vancouver..cool!! Un paio di poliziotti in abiti civili hanno fermato un nero e una tipa, non ho capito bene la dinamica della situazione e non è la prima volta che assisto ad un arresto in diretta (ti ricordi a Barcellona caro Front??Due Mossos d’Esquadra in borghese) però è particolare vedere due poliziotti con pantaloncini corti e t shirt con distintivo che compare da sotto la maglietta e pistola nella fondina a lato (una Sig Sauer penso ;)
La spiaggia era abbastanza affollata come sempre negli ultimi tempi ma il posto è davvero bello, credo sia davvero la miglior spiaggia qui a Vancouver. L’Inukshuk era spettacolare, prima volta che ne vedevo uno di questo dimensioni, abituato come sono ai souvenir!
Non molto altro da dire riguardo questi giorni a parte che Adam è a Toronto da martedì per un viaggio di lavoro e tornerà domani. Non che ciò abbia rappresentato una gran differenza visto che ho passato tutta la settimana in negozio. Si sta facendo piuttosto frequentato ultimamente, l’alta stagione è in arrivo e parecchie navi da crociera cariche di americani,tedeschi ed inglese, sulla rotta per l’Alaska si fermano qui nel porto di Vancouver scaricandoli per lasciarli allo shopping senza limiti.. qui la crisi non è arrivata per nulla! Nessun italiano tra di loro… non c’è un villaggio turistico con animazione da queste parti! LOL! Posso contare sulle dita di una mano le volte che ho parlato italiano..credo 4 se ricordo bene e questo è sicuramente un vantaggio per il mio inglese che sento chiaramente migliorato ed è bene che migliori considerando i miei futuri progetti lavorativi!
Prima della mia visita all’Inukshuk ho assistito ad un evento diciamo bizzarro dalla mia finestra! Un gruppo di ciclisti completamente nudi per le strade di Vancouver!Pazzi canadesi! Non ho idea del perché fossero in giro in questo modo, perfino scortati da due poliziotti motociclisti ma non è che fosse un bello spettacolo vedere sti vecchi..bè..avete capito… era un po’ come a Maspalomas caro Luighi, con i vecchi settantenni nudisti… mamma mia che orrore!!
Domani ritorno al lavoro prima di lunedì in cui sarò libero. Il mio progetto per il futuro è pressoché completo, gli States m’aspettano pertanto è il momento di fermare la mia dipendenza da Slurpee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slurpee) e McFlurry e risparmiare qualcosa!! … a volte non è il massimo avere un McDonald ed un 7th Eleven giusto sotto casa!
Comunque, son già due mesi dal mio arrivo..e se all’inizio 6 mesi sembravano troppi..ora sembrano purtroppo davvero troppo pochi!
