I was on a boat!! Yea man!!

So yea..I was on a fucking boat! A friend of Adam had this damn great idea to organize a party on a boat for his 30th birthday..and it was awesome like hell!
It's a disco club that it's moving! Cruising from Plaza of Nations to English Bay, stay just in the middle of the ocean for a while and then go back! Damn..I love this damn city! Vancouver at night looks awesome!

God when I think that I have to go back in Italy..it sucks! Specially right now that i'm gettin' into the last month! Well, don't wanna think 'bout it right now.. Luighi that motherfucker is coming tomorrow! Fuck we will tear apart this city man!!!

A Buddhist experience, Richmond and Steveston

Yes I know.. is a life that I don’t update this pages but well.. if nothing happens, what am I supposed to write? Yea..in the last two weeks I didn’t do much :) My life in Vancouver has became pretty much a routine.. work 5 days in a row, 2 days off, that’s all :) And even if my job isn’t the most tiring in the world, lately I’m really too lazy to do smth when I’m not on duty, LOL! Last week it was raining when I had my days off so I just started my planning for the 2nd chapter of my adventure here in North America: my travel to the States.. now it’s official since I’ve a fixed date: I will leave Vancouver on the 5th October; I’ll board a Greyhound bus from here through the border until Seattle (13 USD, unbelievable) and then the day after I’ll fly Virgin America to Los Angeles (79.60 USD, unbelievable as well!).. from there I’ll cross the States until New York with my tour! I’m sure it’ll be awesome.. I just have to get a sleeping bag.. sooner or later :-D ! So my last day at work will be the 3rd of October.. it’s really not so far! Today I was reorganizing all the photos I did over here (around 1300!) and oh my God.. I’ve been here 4 months and half! It doesn’t really seem something like that! I told to Adam that I’m leaving and he was amazed.. not because I’m leaving but cause has been really fast! I really can’t believe that I’ll be in Italy in around 3 months.. but who knows, I might leave again.. it’s a splinter in my mind literally lately!

Beside my future plans I went on today and yesterday with my Vancouver exploration.. it’s pretty much concluded so far.. I’ve a couple of museums to see, the UBC, something around but the biggest part has been done.. surely I’ll miss smth but this is pretty obvious.. I hadn’t have really a lot of free time in my life over here! So, I went to Richmond, a suburb of Vancouver and part of Metro Vancouver as well: this allowed me to board the new Skytrain line, the Canada line that connects the YVR airport with the city centre and Richmond as well. It’s faster than a bus and pretty quiet too. On the inauguration day, the ride was free and there were queues everywhere with waiting times that reached two hours! It’s just a train! But it’s amazing what people do when something it’s free! So in Richmond I’ve seen my first Buddhist temple of all my life! They’re really amazing! Incense everywhere along with chants and monks! It was an experience!

Richmond it’s pretty different compared to Vancouver..almost half of the population is Asian, even more than in Vancouver and you can really see it! Everything is written in Chinese and there are a lot of temples around!

After my Buddhist experience I headed to Steveston, an historic fishing village on the southern corner of Richmond itself.. it was very cool, seems something that belongs to the past, it reminded me Finland, when I was with Sami in Porvoo, 2 years ago... the houses didn’t look so different!

Well and so two days off faded away and tomorrow it’s time to go back! And guess what? That motherfucker of Luighi is coming over here! It’ll be again Erasmus time!! He’ll stay here 10 days! Well, I can’t ask days off but for a couple of days we have to organize smth.. !!
It will be like in LP!!

Si, lo so.. è una vita che non aggiorno queste pagine ma alla fine se non accade nulla di rilevante, cosa dovrei scrivere? Nelle ultime due settimane alla fine non è che abbia combinato molto :) La vita qui, in quel di Vancouver è ormai una routine assodata.. 5 giorni di lavoro, 2 off, è tutto :) Ed anche se il mio lavoro non è che sia faticosissimo, ultimamente sono stato abbastanza pigro quando non mi trovo in Water Street! Settimana scorsa pioveva quando ho avuto i miei giorni liberi e così mi sono limitato a dare il via ai miei piani per il 2° capitolo della mia avventura nord-americana: il mio super viaggio negli States.. ora è ufficiale visto che ho una data fissata: lascerò Vancouver il 5 ottobre imbarcandomi su un autobus Greyhound diretto oltreconfine e precisamente verso Seattle ( 13 $, 9 €.. incredibile!) e il giorno successivo volerò Virgin America su Los Angeles (79.60 $, 55 €, incredibile anche questo!) e da li poi attraverso l’America con il mio tour fino a New York!! Sono sicuro che sarà spettacolare.. devo solo comprarmi un sacco a pelo..prima o poi :-D ! Così il mio ultimo giorno di lavoro, dopo 5 mesi e mezzo sarà il 3 ottobre, davvero non è cosi lontano! Oggi stavo sistemando tutte le foto che ho fatto qui (più o meno 1300) e oh my God.. sono qui da 4 mesi e mezzo! Non mi sembra assolutamente! Ho detto ad Adam quando me ne andrò ed era meravigliato.. non perché me ne devo andare visto che già lo sapeva ma per il fatto che è passato tutto davvero velocemente! Non ci posso davvero credere che sarò di nuovo in Europa tra circa 3 mesi o poco più ma chi lo sa.. potrei partire di nuovo.. è un chiodo fisso nella mia testa!

Al di là dell’organizzazione dei miei piani futuri in questi due giorni è proseguita l’esplorazione di Vancouver.. siamo ormai quasi alla fine.. mi mancano un paio di musei e la UBC ma la parte più grande è fatta! Sicuramente dimenticherò di vedere qualcosa ma non avendo avuto chissà che tempo libero in questi mesi, ho fatto del mio meglio!

Così sono andato a Richmond, un sobborgo di Vancouver e parte della Metro Vancouver stessa: questo m’ha permesso di utilizzare per la 1° volta la nuova linea Skytrain aperta lunedì.. nel giorno dell’inaugurazione visto che era gratis.. c’erano code di ore! Per la cronaca ha aperto 3 mesi in anticipo sulla data prevista.. proprio come accade in Italia!! AHAHAH! (era ironico ovviamente)

Così a Richmond ho visto il primo tempio buddista della mia vita! Amazing! Incenso, canti e monaci ovunque! E’ stata un’esperienza!

Richmond è abbastanza differente da Vancouver e la popolazione asiatica è ancora più concentrate che downtown cosicché praticamente tutto è scritto in cinese e si trovano moltissimi templi di religioni asiatiche!

Dopo la mia esperienza buddista mi sono diretto verso Steveston, un villaggio storico di pescatori a sud di Richmond! It was very cool.. sembra veramente qualcosa sbucato dal passato, m’ha ricordato la Finlandia quando 2 anni fa ero con Sami a Porvoo.. le case non sembrano davvero tanto diverse!

Well, così i miei due giorni off sono svaniti e domani sarà tempo di ritornare in Water Street! Ma indovinate cosa? Quel motherfucker di Luighi sta per arrivare qui! Sarà nuovamente Erasmus time! Starà qui 10 giorni; non posso chiedere giorni off ma per un paio di giorni sarà ancora come LP!

After the heat wave..back to life! Simon Fraser University...

And so also July faded away and my 5th month over here is on the horizon... well, last week has been awful, really terrible!! An heat wave hit Vancouver for 5 days and the temperatures jumped to levels never recorded! Ok, for me 34.4° isn’t something exceptional but since I haven’t really lived an Italian summer since the 2006, I can tell that I lost the habit and so it was really a suffering.. Specially considering the fact that inside the store where I work the real feel was something like 40° and stand there for 8 hours without air conditioning but only with a couple of fans fighting an already lost challenge, wasn’t exactly a pleasure!

Finally the wave disappeared Sunday and right now temperatures went back to normal values, not more than 24° and it’s possible breathe again!

Yesterday I decided just to take the Skytrain for a while and see something beyond Downtown.. it’s pretty fast and as far u go from Vancouver core the landscapes change.. I paid a visit to the Lougheed Town Centre, the second largest shopping mall in Vancouver area! So, I saw my first WALMART! The biggest chain of supermarket in the world, not present back home! COOL.. LOL!!Nothing else, beside the fact that was the British Columbia Day...

Today instead I finally went to the Simon Fraser University! Pretty cool.. brutalist architecture that let her become one of the most used movie location over here! The 6^th Day, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Stargate SG1 and X files among the others.. It’s really huge and all the facilities inside, well, in Italy we can just dream them unfortunately! Soccer pitches, tennis courts, swimming pools... It’s the 57^th university in the world not for nothing! Surrounded by mountains and tons of green it must be a really good place to study and live a good university life... it's not so different from the ULPGC but it's a lot bigger!

Meanwhile it’s really time to set my US travel... just 2 months to go.. the time is running too fast :( and I don’t like it ! Crap!

E così anche Luglio è svanito ed il mio 5° mese in quel di Vancouver è all’orizzonte.. well, l’ultima settimana è stata orribile, davvero terribile! Un’ondata di caldo senza precedenti ha investito la British Columbia causando rialzi allucinanti delle temperature che hanno sfondato record che resistevano da quarant’anni! Ok, 34.4° gradi non è che per me siano tantissimi ma visto che non vivo una vera estate italiana dal lontano 2006, posso dire d’aver perso l’abitudine ed è stato davvero una palla! Specialmente considerando che all’interno del nostro negozio c’erano circa 40 gradi e starsene lì in piedi per 8 ore senza aria condizionata non è certo un piacere!

Alla fine tutto è tornato alla normalità domenica e le temperature sono tornate ai valori normali di Vancouver, circa 24°!

Ieri mi sono preso lo Skytrain tanto per farmi un giro e vedere un po’ i distretti fuori dal centro che presentano tutti architetture e caratteristiche completamente diverse da downtown! Ho fatto una visitina al Lougheed Town Centre che è il secondo centro commerciale della regione vedendo così il primo WALMART della mia vita! La più grande catena di supermercati al mondo che non è praticamente presente in Europa!

Oggi ce l’ho fatta ad andare alla Simon Fraser University! Pretty cool, architettura brutalista che le ha permesso di diventare una delle location cinematografiche principali della British Columbia! E’ stata tra l’altro utilizzata per i film “Il Sesto Giorno”, “Ultimatum alla terra” (un aborto!), per diversi episodi di Stargate SG1 ed X-Files tra i tanti! E’davvero un’università enorme, più piccola della UBC che non ho ancora visto ma tutte le cose che presenta all’interno purtroppo in Italia ce le possiamo solamente sognare! Campi da calcio, da tennis, basket, piscine.. è la 57° università del mondo non per niente! Mi ha ricordato un po’ la ULPGC anche se ovviamente è 10 volte tanto!

E’ oramai tempo di iniziare a preparare il viaggio negli USA.. mi rimangono sfortunatamente solamente 2 mesi e ciò non è che mi piaccia molto! Crap!
